If I told you about a supercharger kit on a STOCK Civic SI (1.6L) engine that was making about 210whp?
Just wondering what you would think of that? Or not think of that =)?

id ask to see a dyno to see what the power curve looked like.

I've seen 203 to 205whp stock setups. That power figure is only as good as the dyno.

Let me add this:
First off the car was originally setup with a, not naming companies, but a VERY popular kit utilizing an Eaton/Roots blower kit running about 7.5 psi.
Now someone questioned the validity of the dyno. NOw I agree with this which was why the car was dynoed with the eaton and then the "other" kit on the SAME dyno. Now with the Eaton kit they were only getting about 159whp I believe it was and with the "other" kit they were getting 209whp on the SAME dyno. So dyno quality aside and instead looking at consistency between the two kits.

I hope that wasn't a JRSC! That's way too low.
Most JRSC B16A2 setups hover in the 190-200whp area.

are we playing 20 questions or what ... why are you teasing us with details ? ... just tells us what you know ... or show us the whole deal ...

OK. I would have thought it was pretty obvious with what I usually like to talk about =).
But this is another one of Henry's (revitorred) car's. Remember the EX Civic that was done for him? Well they showed me some numbers from before (JR) and after (Rimmer performance) supercharger kits on the Civic SI that they got from Henry. And I have to agree that I thought that the 159whp was kind of low BUT SINCE both kits were tested consistently with the same dyno, think of what the new kit would dyno. I mean take it at pure value, about a 50whp difference. So...
That's all. I just thought that was fairly impressive.

I spoke to Rick today and he faxed me BOTH dyno sheets... he is quite excited about the results.
First, if you think that the average JRSC Si can only muster up 159 (actually, the dyno sheet showed 165.3) horsepower, then you are kidding yourself. A reasonably tuned '99+ Si will produce from 188 to 194 horsepower to the wheels... and about 145 ft/lbs of torque.
With that said, the Rimmer kit is still impressive. Essentially, you are getting around 15 more horsepower and nearly the same increase in torque... all for a mere $1500 increase in price.
The bottom line: I believe that the JRSC Si was in a really poor state of tune. Rick himself admitted to me that the A/F ratio was hovering around 11:1 in the high end of the rev range... this is WAY too rich for making max power. However, this does not take anything away from the Rimmer kit. It seems to have a power advantage, not only at peak, but also when analyzing the entire curve. The average HP and Torque numbers are slightly higher in the Rimmer kit over the JRSC.
Also dont forget that the Rimmer kit created 8.5 psi of boost, whereas the JRSC only made a bit over 6. The only advantage I saw of the JRSC over the Rimmer kit was the fact that it was tested on a cooler day... eleven degrees cooler to be specific. This said, the JRSC should have made even less HP than what has been tested given the same atmospheric conditions.

Yah I figured the JR kit was kind of low. BUT the thing that impresses me the most, and you also touched on it JRCivic, is that the JR kit was tested on an eleven degree cooler day. BUT the thing I pointed out before that really impressed me was the fact that both kits were tested on the same dyno. Now maybe the car was REALLY not tuned well for the JR kit when Rick got it but either way if you compare the numbers to each other there was about a 40-50hp difference. Consider this a delta hp between the two kits.
And also I think Rick said that the JR kit was peaking at about 7-7.5psi but maybe that is what all 6psi setups do at higher rpms? Sorry just speculating seeing as how I have never really seen or driven a JR modified car.
And, sorry =), but were you being sarcastic when you said
"Essentially, you are getting around 15 more horsepower and nearly the same increase in torque... all for a mere $1500 increase in price."? Just wondering. I guess that is about the same price as a lot of kids spend on I/H/E for about the same increase though right =)?
